  1. Find your insurance details Look at your insurance card or the insurance documents from your program for the name of your insurer and your policy number.
  2. Tell us your provider Fill out our contact form with your insurance provider and, if you have it handy, your insurance number. No overseas coverage? Write “None”.
  3. We help you verify your coverage Our team helps you check your US insurance for therapy abroad and explains the reimbursement process before you start.
  4. We submit the claims for you We submit the claims directly to your insurer, so there is no lengthy paperwork on your side.

Before your first session

What to ask your insurer

Every plan is different. These questions help you understand how your US insurance for therapy abroad works. Have your policy number at hand when you call. If anything is unclear, we help you verify your coverage.

  • Does my plan cover mental health care outside the United States?
  • Are therapy sessions and psychiatry both covered?
  • Is there a limit on the number of sessions?
  • Do I need a referral or an approval before my first session?
  • Do I have a deductible, copay or coinsurance?
  • Are online sessions covered as well as in-person visits?
  • Is medication prescribed abroad covered?
Does GeoBlue cover therapy abroad?

GeoBlue is one of the insurers we work with, and we submit the claims directly for you. What your plan covers abroad, such as therapy, psychiatry or the number of sessions, depends on your specific GeoBlue plan. Contact us and we will help you verify your coverage.

Does CISI cover mental health care abroad?

CISI (Cultural Insurance Services International) is one of the insurers we work with, and we take care of the claims for you. Coverage for therapy and psychiatry depends on your specific plan, so tell us you have CISI when you get in touch and we will help you check it.

Can I use International SOS, Aetna, Cigna or On Call International?

Yes. Along with GeoBlue and CISI, we work with International SOS, Aetna, Cigna, On Call International and other American insurers with overseas coverage, such as Blue Cross Blue Shield and Chubb. Tell us your provider in the contact form and we will verify your coverage with you.

My insurer is not on this page. Can I still use it?

Ask us. Most US insurance for therapy abroad works the same way, and we work with most American insurers that cover you overseas, not only the ones shown here. Write the name of your insurer in the contact form, or email us, and we will check your plan with you.

Do I have to file the claims myself?

No. We submit the claims directly to your insurer, so there is no lengthy paperwork on your side. If you have questions about how the reimbursement process works with your plan, ask us when you get in touch.

Is psychiatry covered as well as therapy?

We offer both: therapy with our psychologists, and psychiatric evaluations and medication management with our psychiatrists (see our services). Whether your plan covers each of them abroad depends on your insurer, so contact us to verify your coverage before you start.

Are online sessions covered?

We offer sessions online as well as in person. Plans do not always treat online care the same way as in-person visits, so check it with your insurer or ask us to help you verify your coverage before your first online session.

What if I do not have insurance with overseas coverage?

You can still contact us, even without US insurance for therapy abroad. In the contact form, write “None” in the insurance field and tell us what you are looking for. Our team will get back to you.
